In a unique initiative ‘Revive’ the students of GEMS Modern Academy, Dubai gifted refurbished laptops and watches to the school support staff during a ceremony in the school. The student-led Academic and IT Council could accomplish this under the supervision of Mr Basheer Ahmad, the School’s assistant engineer for hardware. ‘Revive’ has successfully refurbished and distributed 95 laptops, 225 mobile phones and a number of tablets and watches since its inception in 2017. The data in the refurbished devices was completely wiped out and the software reinstalled before handing it over to the support staff. This initiative is not only benefiting the support staff but also teaching the students new skills. ‘Revive’ is considered to be a great initiative not only because it is benefiting the support staff but also in re-cycling the e-waste lying in out homes.
