Students, parents and school authorities have welcomed  the Manipur Government ‘No School Bag Day’ initiative. The education department of Manipur has introduced a ‘No School Bag Day’ on all working Saturdays for students of classes 1 to 8. This is to impart other skills to students besides textbooks.

The decision was arrived at after a lot of consideration by the education department. They wanted to make schools more conducive and a joyful. Also children, in due course, have to bear the brunt of physical and mental effects of carrying heavy bags to school everyday.

Children of mid-level and primary sections are often bogged down with routine school related assignments and homework giving them little or no time to indulge in any extra curricular activities including sports.
