Come January 2020 and the West Bengal Government will bring class 5 to the primary level. It has been decided in a meeting between education department officials and the Minister to set up the necessary infrastructure in schools where 5th standard classes will commence from January 2020. This one of the step taken to combat the crisis of teachers in state run schools. The second being that graduates would be recruited as interns in Primary and secondary schools.
On the issue of detention of students at classes 5 and 8, the minister said that those who fail should not be driven out of school rather be allowed to attend special classes.
As regards a report from NIOS on question paper leakage for D.El.Ed examination, the state shall be requesting the center to reconsider the decision to hold re-examination of two papers in February as this would be inconvenient to the candidates.
