To make teaching and classroom experience joyful for children studying in elementary schools, NCERT has framed comprehensive guidelines for including art/performing art in the classrooms. NCERT has also provided a list of tools and techniques to the teachers to assess the progress of the students under the new pedagogy.
In its 84 page guideline NCERT recognises the Art Integrated Learning (AIL) as a model which is based on learning through and with the arts. Art here becomes the medium of teaching, learning and understanding the concepts of the subject. The teaching and learning activities will be based on locally available age-appropriate material like pebbles, seeds and beads, leaves, flowers, sand, clay etc. especially at the primary stage.
