Through Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Department of Science and Technology, Government of India provides Fellowship in Basic Sciences to encourage students to pursue basic science courses and research career in science. The aim is to identify students with talent and aptitude for research; help them realize their academic potential; encourage them to take up research careers in Science and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country. It is open to students studying in class 11 to 1st year of any undergraduate program in Basic Sciences like B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology having an aptitude for scientific research.

Students are shortlisted on the basis of their performance in the aptitude test. Short listed students go for the interview or the final round. Fellowship is granted considering both the aptitude test and the interview marks. Generous fellowships are provided up to the pre-Ph.D. level to the selected KVPY Fellows.

Eligibility

The KVPY Fellowships is provided to Indian Nationals to Study in India. Those intending to or are pursuing undergraduate program under any distance learning scheme of any university are not eligible.

Stream SA: Students enrolled in XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2019-20 and having secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE during the X Standard Board examination immediately in the preceding academic year are eligible to appear for Aptitude test. The fellowship offered to selected students will be activated when they join an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences in the academic year 2021-22 securing a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) aggregate in Science subjects in class 12. During the interim period of one year they will be invited for the National  Science (Vijyoshi) Camp sponsored by KVPY.

Stream SX: Science stream students of class 12 of academic year 2019-20 who wish to join undergraduate program in Basic Sciences for the session 2020-21 with the score of minimum 75% (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science in the 10th boards for the academic year 2017-18 are eligible to appear for the aptitude test. Selected students fellowship will be activated only if they join an undergraduate course in basic science in the academic year 2020-21 after scoring a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE in the XII standard Board Examination during academic year 2019-20. The same is applicable for students of 2nd year of study in Cambridge International Examination Board.

Stream SB: Students studying in the 1st year of UG program in Basic Sciences during the academic year 2019–20 and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects  in the class 12 Board Examination in the preceding academic year are eligible to appear for the Aptitude test. In the 1st year final examination of B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. they must secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks before taking up the fellowship, if awarded.

Selection Procedure

Aptitude Test: The Eligible students will take the aptitude test conducted in Hindi and English at various centres across the country on 3rd November 2019. Admit cards will be available for downloading from the second week of October 2019.

Interview: Short-listed candidates will appear for an interview which will also be the final stage of selection procedure.
