A five students team from the Universal American School, Dubai has won a fully sponsored trip to Vienna, Austria under ‘protecting the environment and water resources’ category in the Nuclear Science for Development Student Challenge held by UAE Mission to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). They would be attending the Ministerial Conference for Nuclear Science and Technology 2018 and also get to interact with Ministers of state, scientists and delegates.

The winning idea consists of a three-step plan to benefit the environment using nuclear science.  Firstly partnering with schools to implement environment data sampling (air, water, soil) procedures. Secondly, universities and government to utilize their expertise and equipment to analyse the data using nuclear methods like neutron probing and measuring the isotopic decay. Thirdly the analysed data will be made available online to everyone to simplify the decision-making process for the policymakers in UAE.
