CBSE’s decision to offer choice between two question paper formats, Basic and Standard,  for Maths in class 10 boards in their bid to reduce board related stress and anxiety among students is appreciable. However, the students and parents are unable to take a call in this matter. As per the feedback received from schools, many parents consider it as an ‘inferior’ choice to make as they think  the ‘basic’ question paper format are for those who are not strong in Maths or for those who would not be taking it up in higher classes. Most of the parents want their children to take up science in 11th and 12th as they want them to pursue Engineering or Medicine. Although the board has given the flexibility to students to appear for Standard Mathematics paper in July in case they decide to pursue the subject later but is becoming difficult for educationalists to convince parents to look beyond science and maths.
