The Delhi Government had at the start of the New Year issued a directive that schools need to give MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccine to the children with or without parents consent and that the campaign will commence January 16th. All children in the age group of nine months to 15 years shall receive a single shot regardless of previous vaccination status.

Officers, principals, teachers and students will receive orientation by experts from the Health Department. The letter also said that students need come to school after having breakfast on the day of vaccination. If required Mid-day meal timings could be adjusted accordingly and teachers to crosscheck the left thumb marking of all vaccinated students.

Some parents had filed a petition against this directive in the court. The High Court decided in favor of the parents and stated that MMR vaccines can be administered to the children only with parent’s consent.
