The respect of a disciple towards his Guru is a unique feature of the Indian culture. Global Teacher Status Index (GTSI) 2018 by Varkey Foundation has placed India 8th in the world in terms of respecting teachers but ranks 26th out of 35 amongst the least paying nations when it comes to emoluments. It ranks much below Malaysia and other smaller countries like Portugal, Chile, Czech, Hungary and Columbia. Switzerland, Germany, USA, Canada and Taiwan are the top paying nations.
Apart from paying less, but there is also is a pay cut if their job is not well done. Despite all this India ranks 4th when it comes to parents encouraging their children taking up noble profession of teaching following Malaysia, China and Korea.
