Out of eight participants who won the Scripps National Spelling Bee and took home more that USD 50,000 in cash and prizes six were of Indian origin. Also, for the first time in the 94 year history of the competition there were more than two co-champions. Each of them will receive full winner’s prize money of UDS 50,000. There were 565 contestants from the age group of 7 to 14 competing for the prize from the US and several other countries. The National Bee is a high-profile and a high pressure endurance test and children spend months preparing for it.
