The monsoon session has started in the Parliament and the Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has said that it is mandatory for all private, special category schools and private unaided schools to admit in class 1 or below at least 25% of students belonging to weaker sections and disadvantaged groups. They are also to be provided with free and compulsory education till completion under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act.

Mr Pokhriyal also said that the RTE Act under section 12(2) also reimburses the expenditure to schools for providing free and compulsory elementary education falling under specified criteria for same. Since the majority of schools fall under the administration control states and union territories, hence they are responsible for its proper implementation.
