Virtual Reality (VR)

VR is one of the leading technology trends in L & D. Immersion and presence is what makes it distinct. In other words it is an illusion of reality created by computer system thus making the user digitally experience the simulated environment which leads to higher level engagement and retention. No other medium can give more authentic experience than VR because it allows people to experience which might be too dangerous, expensive or difficult to do in real life.

Augmented Reality (AR)

AR is a combination of real and computer-based scenes and images to give a unified but enhanced view of the world. On 6th July 2016, a mobile game by the name of Pokemon-GO used AR to take the world by storm. Whereas VR gives you access to unlimited virtual world giving the user a spatially restricted experience, AR gives the user a 3D view of the image with the freedom to move around too in the real world. AR increases comprehension through visualization of objects that are difficult to replicate.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

By definition, AI are those computer systems that perform tasks which normally require human intelligence such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision making and translating between languages. For example Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri, and even the Google search engine rely on AI by learning from users thereby imparting only that information that is relevant to them.

Big Data is large volume of data which is analysed for better decision making. It is a very powerful tool for the e-learning industry. It can analyse the learners grasping power and also their pace enabling instructional designer to develop more personalized learning paths.

Podcasts

Audio files available on internet for downloading on a computer or mobile is podcast. This technology has been around for a while but the use of this technology is growing as it gives freedom of anytime anywhere learning.
